Officially thr last locomotive to receive a repair at Newton Abbot, 2-6-2T 4566 leaves the factory on 15 July 1960. Repainted after her Light Casual repair, 4566 worked on running in turns around Newton Abbot for about a week before despatch to Penzance MPD.
Those two splendid signal gantries stand guard over the approach to Newton Abbot for up trains, as No. 4936 Kinlet Hall and No. 1021 County Of Montgomery leave with a Manchester to Penzance train. The whistle is blowing on the leading engine and note how, with the sun head-on, much of the motion is lost in the shadows.
